The physical appearance of a clinic will set the expectations of the patients on how they will be treated and cared for. Hence, when considering a clinic interior design it is crucial to pay much attention to the following elements:
The waiting room
Keeping the waiting area interesting helps patients relax while they wait for their turn to be called for the consultation, which most of the time can be a rather long and tiring process.
Having a television can have mixed results depending what is being played. Having a promotional clip running and constantly repeating itself can be more irritating than enjoyable. Many waiting areas not limited to clinics have been adapting to tuning in to CNA (Channel News Asia) more recently which seems an acceptable option.
Displaying products to increase revenue for the clinic should not be overlooked as well. The traditional glass display cabinet has always been a major obstruction as most clinics do not have the luxury of space especially those in the heartlands. Having individual acrylic boxes mounted to the wall on strategic heights can create an interesting flow visually while serving the function of encouraging patrons to interact with the products.
Lighting and ambience
The first impression of a clinic should always kept clean and hygienic, lighting and colours play an integral part in achieving this. Lots of natural light will be ideal but in cases where natural light is scarce, bright white light is preferred as it gives the impression of cleanliness.
Light colours should also be a priority as they project a sense of hygiene. Bright vibrant colours can also be introduced as they give out a sense of cheerfulness which is beneficial to both patients and clinic staff.
Accessibility
Being elderly and disable-friendly is definitely a predominant factor when it comes to clinic interior design. It is also important to consider patients with hearing or visual impairments.
Having automated doors with sensors will provide much needed convenience and signage with clear indications will allow patients to easily navigate within the premises.
